Welcome to The Final Four Is Not on the Schedule discussion board. A forum for the serious and casual MSU fan. Opinions welcome – stay respectful.
Rod isn't able to watch this game live due to prior commitments so I will give a few of my thoughts to spur some discussion.
1) The offense looks so smooth with Hoggard in there. He is smart, a great passer, and anticipates well. Reminds me of Winston in the sense that he seems to just understand the game and what the opponents are trying to do before they do.
2) Hitting the glass great on both ends. Also, finally good rebounding from the wings (I say this without seeing stats yet).
3) Defensive intensity is great and you can really see how our guards and ball hawking are going to disrupt a lot of teams.
4) Sissoko keeps getting better. Better knowing where to be, how to defend and intensity on the boards. Managed to handle Timme so far.
5) Brooks really looking good mostly on the boards and looking for his shot.
6) Transition, transition, transition. Looks great - Gonzaga countered with the 1-3-1 press but it was worse when Hoggard was out there after he had seen it a few times.
Doing everything we need to do to win. Can we sustain it and maybe get some more from Hall and Hauser once they come off the bench with foul trouble?
Very impressed by Sissoko, certainly his best half of basketball in the green and white.
Agreed on the Winston and Hoggard comparison. They're very different players, but their craftiness and ability to get in the lane are both very similar.
Without looking at stats, seems we missed some opportunities at the line.
Imagine if we had a fully healthy Akins?!
Another half like that and we may go from unranked to top ten in a week. Let's not get ahead of ourselves though, Gonzaga will come to play in the second.
