Welcome to The Final Four Is Not on the Schedule discussion board. A forum for the serious and casual MSU fan. Opinions welcome – stay respectful.
Loving all the interviews
I feel like you guys should be able to get Tom on a pod with all the connections you have made around him.
Also Spiro had Malik hall on his show last week it was great, I feel like getting him or some other current players in the off season might be in the cards.
I look forward to updates on the freshmen after they show up on campus, specifically, on which ones are impressing Izzo beyond his expectations.
Speaking of updates, here is a video of Kohler working out.

That would be a great get and stupendous. In my humble opinion, the credibility of the podcast would warrant it. I'd enjoy the manner and type of questions Rod and Eric would likely pose as well. Regardless, I trust in those two to continue with the output as they see appropriate.

Certainly getting Izzo would be the pinnacle. The sports of info guys says that he gets over 100 requests per week from media sources all over the state and country. Even being the number one MSU bball pod doesn't make anything easy. I guarantee you that I am doing what I can to make it happen. Just won't believe it until we actually get him on.
In the meantime, we are working to get good content and players, coaches, etc. on. As well as other media types. Just tough when you're just a couple of regular guys reaching out to people who you don't have connections with. We've done pretty well so far and will continue working it.
Also, any suggestions for show topics before we begin the previews in a couple months would be appreciated. We're open to guests and topics.
Possible Topic Suggestions:
- Rank Big 10 coaches
- Rank conference backcourts or the top 3-4 backcourts in college basketball
- Identify the best MSU lineups for the following:
- most athletic: Fears - Akins - Normand - Carr - Cooper?
- best defense: Holloman - Walker - Akins - Hall - Sissoko?
- best shooting: Walker - Akins - Normand - Hall - Kohler?
- best running/ball movement team: Hoggard - Akins - Carr - Hall - Sissoko? Should Fears be on that team?
- What does MSU need to do to beat Purdue next year? I know they lost a close home game, but I thought they should have separated from Purdue with their significant guard advantage, especially given that Purdue’s guards were freshmen.
- Updates on Foster Loyer, Julius Marble, Thomas Kithier, and Pierre Brooks
- What did UConn’s championship reveal about what it takes to win the tournament?
- If only the graduating class leaves next year, which 2024 currently-offered recruit would you most want to add to the Teng/McCullough class?
- Updates on recruits in AAU play

Thank you for seeking the input. As far as potential guests, Hauser and Winston could be a couple good ones (though I realize both may be quite busy in their current endeavors). The not-so-long-ago retired Mike Garland could be another possibility. Beyond that, could also cross-promote with SpartanMag and have Jim and/or Paul.
Building on HazelMotes' request for updates on recent transfers, I'd throw in a general "where are they now" that could include occasional one-off updates on past transfers, past players, past assistants, etc.
The Ask-Me-Anything (AMA) shows have been interesting and, I believe, worth a repeat. In that light, here's some potential questions:
- All-time starting five plus sixth man for dunkers, plus thoughts on Carr's potential to join this list.
- What was more heartbreaking, the Kansas or the Georgia Tech game clock 'incidents'? Also, what kind of impact would one or both going differently have had on the coaching legacy of Heathcote (e.g., if Heathcote had 2 Final Fours to add to his resume in addition to the title)?
- If MSU's bench (Holloman, Fears, Normand, Carr, Booker, Kohler, Cooper) were the starters plus first two off the bench, in what place do you think they'd finish in this year's coming Big Ten season?

Matt Steigenga is another possibility for a guest. He also played in the Sweet 16 Georgia Tech game clock, three pointer or not controversy.
With a quick glance at the season page, that team was on a 12 game winning streak going into the Georgia Tech game with 6 of those wins over ranked opponents. If my memory serves me right, Kirk Manns was a huge part of that team but then suffered an injury late in the season and wasn't quite himself when he came back. If he's at full healthy, the game probably isn't as close and the clock isn't an issue. A great UNLC team was waiting in the Final Four, but it sure would've been nice to make it that far.

Loved the ranking of the coaches. I was interested to see where you would put Woodson and Underwood, two coaches I have a hard time respecting. If the question was which of the conference coaches would you least want to coach MSU, those two would be at the top of my list.
At the end of the broadcast you talked about the two best conference coaches of all time, Knight and Izzo. I wonder who would make the top 10 all time. I imagine we would see Keady and Ryan on there. Heathcote, having won a national title might even make it. Would Weber?
Two of my favorite all-time conference coaches, although not necessarily the most successful, are Bruce Weber and Tubby Smith.
Another discussion I would be interested in would examine which freshmen in the Izzo era have had the most impact on a team. I know many are expecting big things from this incoming group, but given the depth of the team I am not sure any of them will start. Which Izzo freshmen have made all-conference teams? Who are the top 5 most impactful freshmen during Izzo’s tenure? Paul Davis? Lorbek? Cleaves? Brown? Morgan? D. Davis? Bell? Ward? Bridges?
I don’t know how to edit my previous post, but I wanted to add that 3 MSU freshmen have been conference freshman of the year under Izzo: Gary Harris, Miles Bridges, and Jaren Jackson.
Izzo would be a great guest but I would like to hear Greg Kelser talk about playing against big men. He is 6’7” and played against much taller opponents including a Russian center that was 7’6”. If my memory serves Kelser won the jump to start the game. How would he play against Zach Edey or a Kofi Cockburn? Is man to man better or the zone Heathcote relied on? Run the bigs to exhaustion or just shoot lights out from the perimeter to negate the big’s height?
I never got the sense Kelser was intimidated by someone bigger.
