Echoes the thoughts of many in and around their athletic department (notably NOT the AD himself, mind you).  From the outside looking in, it certainly appears there is a struggle of sorts going on in Ann Arbor as to how to, or even whether they should at all, utilize any sort of organized approach to NIL for student athletes and, importantly, in regard to *prospective* student athletes.  I'm not even entirely sure where their head football coach stands on the issue, but it's pretty clear from the linked piece above that Howard isn't a fan of what M is, or rather isn't, doing.

Admittedly, this is something which could change at the drop of a hat and be "fixed." They've got a new president onboard, who presumably isn't a part of whatever the mindset has been to date.  Perhaps he's good with organizing a more robust response.  The AD seems, from what I gather, to be a "we've built it, so they will come" sort of guy, not exactly a cheerleader for the new environment. How do those two guys play into what happens?  How do boosters and their alum base factor in?  All open questions, but it seems to be virtually unanimous that Michigan is way behind at this stage when compared to other schools, most definitely including Michigan State.

What a shame!  You mean to tell me they haven’t found a modern day Ed Martin to bring his team some cakes!

I’m glad they’re struggling. So much of the NIL stuff is happening out of view from the public making it tough to know which schools are ahead and who is behind.

Seeing some of the recent stories about de facto “salaries” to all players in the money programs at certain schools makes me hope we see some more public progress at MSU. Juwan here complains about not having a collective; does MSU have a collective? I don’t see it talked about much.

Love it.  For no other reason than it drives their mouth breathing fans insane.
