Always taken with a big grain of salt but it's still interesting to look through Kenpom and their first rankings of the year. Obviously it will change a ton especially when there is so much roster turnover making it hard to predict. It lines up with what Rod/Eric talked about with the middle of the pack of the B1G being extremely close. IU out in front at #12 but then MSU/UM/OSU/ILL/IOWA/PUR all right on top of each other between 23-33
How much will MSU improve on their #67 defense from last year is the big question. Their worst on that site since 2006 (#119 that year, yikes)
We got into the defense with state on the big preview but I guess when you look at the jumbled up nature of the teams it makes a lot of sense. Ton of turnover especially at the top teams (Illinois, UM, OSU, Purdue) and then questions at IU and MSU on whether folks an improve. I tend to believe in MSU in being better because they lose guys who didn’t rebound great defensively on the wings and I expect Akins and Hall to be better.
Iowa at 23 (and being the 2nd B1G team) is insane.
I suppose if you think Kris Murray will be amazing like Keegan and the team is about the same then maybe.
I'm not convinced Kris will make the same leap. I think he will be good but not great.
I agree. They seem much more like a top-50 team to me than a fringe top-20 team.
