With the recent long break between games and no doubt the coaches out recruiting I thought I would start a thread on the topic. Question for you guys, with the transfer portal and with teams holding less scholarship players, what do you think having Kohler/Cooper does to the recruiting of the center position? This year we have three but would someone like James Brown jump into our mix? A lot can happen from now to then but wonder how Izzo sells this to a 2024 prospect while still letting Kohler/Cooper know they have the opportunity to be the guy if they develop. Same question can be posed for the PG position with Jace Richardson although maybe easier for a PG to jump to wing than a center to play the 4.

I think there is a big difference between recruiting high school players and transfer players. Established players are always used to guys coming in at their position to compete. It’s the transfer over into a position that I think causes the real problems.

It is probably very real in how easy or hard it is to recruit new players if they look at the minutes taken in front of them however.

For the center position, I am not sure there will be much concern from new recruits. Kohler will likely be getting 20 minutes a game in his junior year and it is hard to know about Cooper. Jaren Jackson only played about 20 minutes a game in his one season here and was drafted pretty high. Also, I would not be surprised if some of the bigs played some at the 4 so that makes even more minutes available.

I am not confident that Richardson will come to MSU. MSU will likely have Fears and Holloman who I suspect will each be playing at least 20 minutes a game. Perhaps the best argument to get him to come is that Izzo has been playing 2 point guards at a time quite a bit lately.
