I'm curious what things folks would do to improve the product. Dating myself but I remember the game before the obligatory under 16, 12, 8, 4 TV timeouts. The game was much more about runs and either stemming it or burning a time out. I believe teams had an extra time out too but I wonder if there would be a way to just give extra time outs and eliminate the mandatory commercial breaks. I'd let them put ads around the screen, etc. to avoid those commercial breaks.
At a minimum maybe go to under 15, 10, 5 TV timeouts.
I do like how there is a double bonus. It speeds up the game significantly by avoiding the endless fouling at the end of games.
I like the 15, 10, 5 suggestion. I'd make the timeouts shorter too. If they can superimpose the first down line on the TV, it should be no problem superimposing advertiser logos. Do that, and keep the game moving.
As far as the college game too, avoid the intermittent attempts to be like the pro game. The pro game is largely unwatchable, don't emulate it. I'd even add 5 to 6 seconds back to the shot clock.
I do like the new anti flop rules.
Take the tournament back to 64 teams and skip the play in games. Or, if you have them, make them ALL at large teams.
Kindness is free.
My imagination might be too limited to have a lot of insights about how to improve the college game. I would like to see more consistent officiating and obvious floppers penalized. I would like to see programs like Kansas punished appropriately. I am hoping the new transfer rules don’t make the game worse. My bigger concerns are proposed changes like expanding the tourney field and the possibility of teams making trades.
Maybe one thing I would like to see is if a coach is still under contract and he leaves for another team, he has to sit out a year, like the old rule for transfers.
I’d be happy with changes where you are never rewarded for fouling. Always drives me nuts when I see a team starting a break away (often after a steal or something) and the other team just fouls the player to stop it.
