We absolutely love to see it. Between the recent recruiting, and this official investment from the University, I'm really excited for the "5 year plan" of the program.

@msuinmke doesn’t seem to be intent on going anywhere soon.

It seems to me, Izzo has reinvented himself.  The Kithier/Loyer class versus the '23 class.  Using his HOF clout to attract those outside of the contamination of the MSU vs UM instate malaise.

@laconic Boy, I disagree with that completely. He hasn’t reinvented himself…he’s done what he’s always done. Work as hard as humanly possible, put on outstanding visits which illustrate clearly what the program can do for a player and how they fit, and most importantly, be himself. I don’t know what you mean by the last sentence, either.

Last sentence first.  When recruiting in the state of Michigan there are biases.  Family, coaches who are um fans that can have influence over in state kids.  I feel like MSU has a better rep outside the state.  And it seemed like CTI's mantra for many years was to recruit kids from within a five hours drive of EL, so family could attend if so desired.

The reinvention is going outside the five hour perimeter to best player to fit a need.  His success as a coach and his placing MSU as an elite program has allowed him to do so.

Izzo's work ethic is never in question.  See the recruitment of Booker.  It's a shift in priorities.  After the Loyer situation, where he was banking on Foster to be the next guy and it didn't work out, I believe he has decided he is going to have a bevy of ball handling point guards.

Now, with his national status as a HOF coach he can have a shot at kids, especially, OKG's, waltzing in late in the process.

We will all rue the day CTI hangs it up.

@laconic you’re dead on with the shift in Izzo for talent on the team but as we discussed in the episode, it probably has more to do with the environment of less MI talent. Requiring a bigger recruiting radius.

I think you’re right that there’s a lot of familiarity with the MI programs so MSU is not as shiny as with a kid from far away. I’m sure Kansas doesn’t seem as cool to a kid from Topeka as does Kentucky or Duke.

@elarson284568176374567 There is also a lot of revisionist history going on with that Kithier/Loyer class.  Loyer and Bingham were both highly rated and wanted by a lot of people.  Brown was seen similarly to Carr (not comparing them as players.  Henry and Kithier were the afterthoughts.

The class ended up being pretty much a bust, but at the time people were excited.

Great move from a recruiting standpoint.  Now competitors can't point to the end of a contract and say Izzo might not be there to coach you.
